I’ve had parcels go from Brisbane via Melbourne the to Sunshine Coast… several times too. 
I don’t think the parcels actually physically travel around… although no doubt sometimes they do.
I’'ve had parcels delivered that still show tracking interstate when they’re sitting at my front door. 
Like BWS ordering corona…
It comes from mexico, but they create an invoice / paper trail saying it came in via another country for cheaper tax concessions…
