What Did You Get Up To Today?

Slipped my new $17 CYMA gearbox from Ausgel into my M4 today after a few basic upgrades like a 1.18 spring and a piston o ring.

280FPS on the chrono, right where I wanted it. Decent power but really inconsistent feeding. Ripped it down again to find out why and lo and behold…

How the hell did I miss that first time around? Why didn’t I see it when I upgraded the o ring? :joy:

Ah, good ol’ Chinese Q.C… their eyesight must be as bad as mine. Lucky I have a shit ton of spare CYMA bits kicking around.

Not uncommon unfortunately
Seen quite a few like that, but my faves were the ones where the nozzle tube wasn’t even secured inside the head… they would simply slide backwards and forwards wherever they landed through the cycle :astonished:

Back to M92 grip staining.
Going for a darker stain, similar to Burton colour grips, and tried some gloss quick dry lacquer to preserve the wet / glossy look.

I worked on the lower one, first pic is the black plastic standard grips.

About 4/5 coats of stain later, and several light gloss coats…

Darker than the other one above it, the gloss brings the wood grain out…

Heres the BBC, in RE trim…

The final result is pretty close.
Looks good, on a mostly black blaster.

For contrast, here is the grips i did in decking oil…much lighter / glossy…

Or, is Bazza adding a foregrip, to counter the recoil of his explosive tipped rounds…??

I must say, that BBC is one snazzy looking bit of gear…!
thanks, @Friendly_Fire

Hmmm… not sure how I feel about that tri-colour…

But then again, it don’t matter cos it ain’t mine!

You do have some cool combos going there, BME. :+1:

It definitely suits the all black/ silver barrel.

The silver slide, ended up on the black frame, because of mix and match…

I just wanted to see how it looked, on a black frame…!

That BBC sure is good. That’s what she said.

My ocd triggers everytime I see that Tearass with slide safety. That was a Berretta thing not Taurus. Frame mounted safety of the early Berretta.

No woody for the Tri Colour. Slide looks … eh each to their own :+1:

That BBC though…
a woman with a gold chain around her neck is smiling with the words oh baby baby below her

Part of the reason why I was glad to lose the Taurus brand on the slide when I painted mine for the S.T.A.R.S. Beretta build.

Thank YOU, BME…

I’m just happy, I finally got a stain colour that gets the result I want.
And, the lacquer preserves the wetter look ( harder to see in the pic).

Should get the cerakoted upper slide back soon, old matey said it depends on how much oil weeps out of the pot metal, as he cooks it…

Then, Wesker here we come…
It’s taken awhile….

Side note: new KEle silver smoky m92…
Price has gone up, and build quality down.

They now have black plastic trigger, hammer, and switches….

And finish not quite as good, as the first batch…

Glad I grabbed a gen 1, for Wesker…

Now that looks sick. It’s the little things :+1:

What stain are you using? I have done quite a few wood stain refurb jobs.

One of those up there looks like it hasn’t taken too well. OCD, still looks alright I’m just a nutter LOL

From good ole Bunnings, Feast Watson brand, “ Old Baltic”.

Walnut is too dark, and just blacks everything out.

This is a lighter stain, and I did about 4 coats, to get the desired colour.
Spray on lacquer darkens it a little, as well.

This is the closest I could get,to the RE finish stain…

Ah cool. That’s more outdoor decking type is it? Never used myself.

This what I’ve stuck to over the years

Gives a lighter hue or darker the more you re rub. With steel wool gets that bleed I see you had after off. Apply with a soft rag. Read the destructions. Works pretty good for me.

Prep is the go, rub it all down with snadpaper and steel wool. Apply your base coats to your desired darkness rubbing down with steel wool in between.

Just throwing it out there anyway. Looks awesome :+1:

Yeah, I tried the hitman suppressor on that Beretta…

And while it looks cool in a Léon : The Professional kinda way, I just found it more appealing in short form. :man_shrugging:

Happy B’day to me!

Having a few pints of Black Duck next to a river full of Black Ducks :beers::sunglasses:

In a town closer to the metro area spending the day with doctors appointments… but it’s finally beer o’clock🙌

Can’t be effed walking over to take a picture of the river from the suspension bridge, too fkn hot out there, so you’ll just have to take my word for it that there’s actually Black Ducks over there :joy:

Happy birthday @DocBob

have an awesome one

O hell yea catching up with Dad he’s cracking a frothy coffee too. It’s on like donkey kong  :face_with_peeking_eye: Might smash a few Tawnies in a bit. Tis the season.

Got to celebrate after getting a job done :christmas_tree: :+1:

Man you got the skills. Your OCD is a great thing :+1:

Happy birthday @DocBob :beers:

Okay, I gave in and decided to prove that there’s actually Black Ducks under the bridge, even though you might have to zoom in to see them

This is also a place where my great grandmother, grandmother and a couple of Aunties worked from the end of WW2 through to the late 1970’s/early 80’s.

Then it also hit me in the face like an idiot, NOT realising that I was spending my Birthday in the town that I was actually born in 52 years ago! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Pretty poor effort when you forget where you were born :disappointed:

So quite fitting to be sitting in the town that I was born in, just attended Doctor’s appointments in the same Hospital that I was born in, sitting at the place having a few beers where my family had worked at for nearly 50 years :sunglasses:

BTW: This historic old Hotel has just been reopened after a multi million dollar restoration as a Heritage Listed Building :raised_hands:
