New use for a SIG 552

Don’t be surprised if there’s a few bushfires throughout the WA southwest on the News tomorrow morning :frowning:

It’s as hot as fck here tonight, very low humidity, strong easterly winds and plenty of lightning crashing across the entire sky.

My many years of bushfire knowledge had me telling many locals this afternoon that this is perfect bushfire conditions :flushed:

Yup…….

Saw this tweet too, which seemed pretty crazy in and of itself. Put together with WA and Qld fires it’s a bit weird we don’t hear enough of it on MSM.

For reference the first article on ABC News about the fires is eighth down the list.

We have a binary climate - fire or flood

My favourite saying about Australias natural climate to all of my overseas friends……….

“If it’s not on fire, it’s because it’s underwater.”

Plenty more fires have been reported across the Southwest, these are just the latest ones in my local area, and a few are getting worse due to the temperatures and high winds :frowning:

Gotta love summer lightning storms.

The Bad stuff…

Might be time for enduring power of attorney, for Mum…

We were literally going to the solicitors 2morrow, for various legal stuff.
I checked mums (joint) bank account online… to find it nearly empty…a large sum missing…

I rang up mum, “have you taken money out, or done something with it??”
“No, No…are you sure.?? Yes, yes”.

I’m freaking out, thinking its been hacked, or something…

We go the bank, she went in the other day, and they opened another account for her, (not joint) with a higher interest rate…

And she forgot all about it…
Also, with the solicitors knowledge, the joint account was set up, for her legal reasons…

Might be time, for enduring power of attorney.

She doesn’t have Alzeihers, just elderly, concerned and forgetful.
Everything is legally 100% above board, and in accordance with her wishes.

Its sad watching your parents decline, losing Dad was horrible, and knowing Mum doesn’t have a lot of time left…just awful…

Let the people in your life, know, how much you care for them…

It’s definitely very difficult and emotional, but I see it as looking after them as for the many years as they did when we were being raised, so it’s a great opportunity to be there for them as they were for us in our own lives :+1:

I have Power of Attorney for my Old Man and my Sister for my Mother as the two oldest children, whereas our younger Brother will just have to do as he’s told! :joy:

Goodonya for being there to look after your Mum, as many families simply shun their parents in later life, becoming too busy in their own lives to stay in touch or be involved with them.

Getting stashed away out of sight in a Nursing home is something that our family has never done with our elderly relatives, instead we have moved them into our family homes and cared for them ourselves until their passing, which is great for everyone involved, especially the kids being able to spend a lot of time with them as well :+1:

I must be old school, but,…

I simply could not imagine, not looking after Mum…

The woman who bore us, raised us, cared for us, and has given so much…

She looked after her parents, and, grandad passed at their home, and grandma only had a 3mth stay, at a nursing home…
Mums family side is Albanian, so strong family ties are a real thing…
( until betrayl, my sister, im looking at you…)

Work offers “carers lines”…
This offers certain fixed days off, to provide care, and book medical appointments in advance…

Not gonna lie, it benefits me as well, having fixed days off, as opposed to varying monthly rosters … But…

I will use it , for what its intended…

Keep mum at home, for as long as possible, and hopefully avoid a nursing home ( or, at least minimal stay).

I keep (jokingly) threatening, to “crab pot her”…!!

“misbehave too much, you’ll end up in the crabpot…!!”

We both laugh, she knows i’m joking…using humour as a defense, against a awful, inescapable reality of life…
